HEAL COVE: AN ICON OF ISLAND HISTORY AND BEAUTY
When European settlers first encountered this beautiful waterfront site in the 1700s, they recognized it for its economic potential. The Shattuck and Heal families settled the site and harnessed the power of the tide — creating a lucrative sawmill and grist mill. After 100 years of mill operation, the site became the “Upper Landing” stop along the Eastern Steamship route.
The exhibit focuses on the Heal Cove property and the individuals who have made it their home during the last 250 years.
