About Us

The Friends of Westport Island History is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose goal is to work with our partners to pursue, preserve, and promote Westport Island’s proud history, historic buildings, and rich cultural heritage.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to further the collection of historical records and artifacts and showcase them to the public, while fostering a culture that values and recognizes the contributions of volunteers and donors, by:

  • Educating the public and organizations to promote interest in Westport Island and its history;
  • Continuing to build on Westport Island history to help further its rich tradition and culture for future generations, through storytelling, promotion, and presentation of assets;
  • Pursuing and acquiring historical records and artifacts according to policies and processes;
  • Increasing the accessibility and visibility of historic holdings and assets, which may include: collaboration with other organizations, website, publications, PR, exhibits; 
  • Advocating and partnering to preserve our historic properties;
  • Conducting fundraising and other financial management, as approved by the Friends of Westport Island History Trustees, to meet the financial needs of the Friends’ Vision and Mission.

OUR VISION

Our vision is to educate, communicate, and conduct fundraising events to further the collection and preservation of Westport Island’s history.

The town-appointed History Committee and the Friends work together to pursue, preserve and promote the proud history and rich cultural heritage of our island home.
