Catalogit
In 2020, the Friends purchased “Catalogit”, a program that allows us to catalogue our items online and create a digital library of our holdings. As of 2024, we have over 1,000 items viewable in Catalogit.
BUILDING OUR HISTORY STORY
Beginning in 2021, history volunteers and a paid summer intern have been scanning items in our collection and uploading them to Catalogit. Catalogit is helping us fulfill one of our primary missions: to increase access to and visibility of our holdings. The program also allows us to capture the stories of our historical items. Photos are uploaded and attached to a template on which we record:
- People pictured
- What is happening
- The date, or approximate date, of the item
- Context and location
- Relationships to people, industries, homes or places, and
- Who provided the item
CATALOGIT AS A RESEARCH TOOL
Another advantage of a digital database is its flexible search capability. The data can be searched by names of people, locations, collections, and more. Whether researching family genealogy, house histories, or livelihoods of times past, a digital database makes researching easier and more efficient.
