Current Research Projects
In collaboration with the Town’s History Committee, the Friends conduct on-the-ground research. Current projects include:
- The identification of the many cellar holes on the island, a few of which are at the Segerstrom Preserve. More information on the Cellar Hole Project can be found here and at the History Center.
- The investigation of the Fort McDonough site, a fort that was built on the north end of the island during the War of 1812.
- A contextual study of the period murals in the home currently owned by Bob and Callie Connor. The house was built by Cornelius Tarbox, Jr. in 1848. Various maritime activities are depicted on the walls of the central stair hallway.
